Aweful restaurant, the food is not that good and you have to pay 15% extra on the bill! The waiter is not nice at all.

Tourist trap between Buda Castle & Matthias Church. Pizza was dreadful and reheated rather than freshly made.

Worst experience in Budapest, not worth the money. Chicken breasts awful, pizza like from microwawe. No more!

Good cake and coffee...obvs

We called in as a group of 10 and were seated in a convenient private area which was great! The food we chose was simple (grilled and deep fried meat / cheese), but they were all nicely done and the salads were fresh. Portions are normal size (not the usual oversized portion you normally get in Hungary), and when we ordered an extra dish for the kids they got it ready promptly. The waiter may not have had the most polished manner, but overall it was a good experience and I would recommend this place.

Absolutely fantastic customer service, the food and drink is excellent too! If you visit, you should try the goulash soup, and the dreher bak beer is fantastic!

We stopped in for lunch against reviews. The soups were good as were the salads. Our service was good. There were lots of choices on the menu for lunch. Local beers were on tap. Prices were reasonable.

Stopped for lunch. Nice staff, great location. Clean restaurant. Had great choice of food and drinks and all great value for money.

On a hot day retreat to Tarnok for some shade and a light lunch. The food came out quickly for a reasonable price considering it’s a touristy area. You are close to the road so cars come and go while you eat.

We ate here twice whilst visiting the Pest side of the city as it was cheaper and more approachable than many of the other restaurants in the area. The restaurant does not try and look more than what it is, a mid-range restaurant for passing visitors.
On our first visit here my wife opted for the Camembert & Rice dish which consists of a large number of bite sized breaded and fried camembert pieces served on a bed of white rice with a fruit jam accompaniment. Be aware that is looks nothing like the picture in the menu which shows one larger camembert with a domed helping of rice but was actually larger than the picture and still delivered ion the taste if not on the presentation. I opted for the pork slice and fries which was basically a thin piece of pork breaded and fried with a helping of French fries. Again pretty standard food but tasty and plentiful.
On our second occasion we both opted for a pizza, one with Feta cheese and Olives and the other with Hungarian salami. Both were cooked fresh and exactly as described in the menu. Toppings were plentiful to ensure the Pizza was not too bready as in some places.
The service was a bit on the slow side but from what I could see this was down to the fact that it was all done to a single individual most of the time. However credit must go to him for not bowing to an Italian tour guide who tried to force an order on him for a quick turnaround due to their schedule ensuring that their food was brought to them in the order it was placed and not first as she was demanding.
Cheaper than rest around here and less choice as a result with basic but good food

Ate at Tarnok's last week, it was the best Hungarian meal of the week and one of the least expensive. The chicken paprikash with dumplings was excellent as was the goulash soup and dessert (a Hungarian version of clatoufi). Service was a bit slow but the restaurant was full with customers lined up for seats. All this plus 2 wines and a beer for roughly £22. A must visit when touring Buda Castle.

Obsługa i czas oczekiwania 4/5 :)
Prices as for Budapest, OK (it was not our priority though). We wanted something traditional. Onion soup, goulash with dumplings (3/5) fried camembert (3/5) + pizza for a daughter (2/5) - it tasted like a frozen one. We ended full of course but I don't think I'd go back. I'd rather pay a bit extra. Service and waiting time 4/5 :)

Was going to order a pizza until I saw how thick the base was on the one at the next table, you could have used it as a door stopper, it was that thick, not to my liking at all, so we just settled on a couple of drinks instead.
Service was ok, if a little slow

We were pleasantly satisfied by the quality of the food and the service. The owner seemed a bit distracted when we stopped in and it took some time (7 minutes) to get waited on. After that, the service was good and my grey cattle stew on dumplings was outstanding.
We stopped in because of a thunderstorm and we were not well prepared. Our guardian angel was looking out for us.

When we visited Fisherman's Bastion, we looked at the limited available places where we can have a decent meal paying a reasonable price, and we chanced upon Tarnok Café. It was ok! There was only one server, an old, quiet man, and we wondered if he was also the owner. Understandably service was not so fast, but we enjoyed the duck leg meal and the pizza. Overall it was a good choice!
